This Jesus...
Jesus is the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity. He is God incarnate, who left His Father's side and came to earth as a humble babe to live a sacrificial life and die on a cruel cross for our sins.
Jesus is our Savior, Sanctifier, Healer and Coming King. There is nothing in this world that we need that the blood of Jesus has not afforded us, most of all our salvation.
Many believe that we can work our way to Heaven by being a good person and doing good things, but that is futile thinking. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."
Because none of us could ever be good enough to earn our way to Heaven, God leveled the playing field by sending His Son, Jesus, to the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. It is ony by God's grace, through Jesus's blood, that we are relinquished from our guilt and sin and shame; that we are set free from the pain of our past, and from hopelessness and despair. It is only through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ that we can embrace the victorious life that God desires for His beloved children and have eternal life.
In other words, when we believe Jesus died for our sins, we have the assurance of spending eternity in Heaven.
Without this free gift of salvation, we are destined to a Christ-less eternity in hell, where "there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matt. 13:42).
But Jesus is our hope.
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
When we believe that Jesus died for our sins, ask God to forgive our sins, and invite Jesus into our hearts, the Spirit of God comes to reside in us and we become a new creation. The old has passed away and the new has come (2 Cor. 5:17). The Holy Spirit helps us turn from our old selfish, wicked ways to live the life God purposed for us when He created us.
